COLOUR OF THE YEAR

For the last 25 years, Pantone have decided the Colour of the Year for everyone. A small colour cartel meet in a boardroom and decide what shade all of us will soon be seeing, wearing and buying.

It is a self-fulfilling prophecy. The moment the colour is announced, fashion designers, homewares companies, graphic designers, stores and even music videos start to echo the shade, creators believing that following the trend means success. All the while, Pantone is there to profit by selling colour swatches and its own version of the chosen hue.

That is all shades of shady. This year, within an hour of the announcement that the colour is CLOUD DANCER, artist Stuart Semple had already created his own version, PROUD CHANCER.

PANTONE

Please note: the colours on this page are in no way associated with Pantone. They are not made by Pantone. When you purchase one, you are supporting us, a small artist studio in England, and you are not in any way purchasing anything from Pantone.

But that is not all. For the last six months, you, the people, have been voting democratically for your Colour of the Year. After thousands upon thousands of votes, the people’s average colour choice is ANARCHIC VENOM.

We are making both colours available, the freshly liberated PROUD CHANCER and the people’s Colour of the Year ANARCHIC VENOM. We are offering them for no more than it costs the studio to make them.

IMPORTANT: By purchasing PROUD CHANCER or ANARCHIC VENOM you confirm that you are not an employee or associate of Pantone LLC and, to the best of your knowledge, information and belief, neither PROUD CHANCER nor ANARCHIC VENOM will make their way into the hands of Pantone LLC or any associate of Pantone LLC.
